A quick change of format…
One of the great pleasures of being on live journal is the community function. When communities are active, you can see amazing stuff on them. Like this picture posted today on vintagephoto by sensen. If you’re not following it I’d recommend joining, there’s a great parade of images, most anonymous but almost all worth a look. I’m embarrassed to say that I mostly lurk on there, but seeing these dudes todat made me think that I should dust off my scanner and get to posting.
This picture also reminds me to announce that I’m heading to the Bay Area tomorrow to to teach cigar and pipe play at IMsL. I’ll mostly be at the event, but I may well be able to get away a bit for some other chitchat.

Dear Pepsico,
When marketing your canned chemical/corn syrup infused water brew in neighborhoods whose population is primarily African-American, it might be better to think for a minute before using slogans that are so redolent of the dialect stylings of Messrs Amos and Andy.
