Thanks to everyone who said such nice things about the broken pipe yesterday. It was unexpected.
Evidently Sylt has some historical connection with pirates. I’m not quite sure what this consists of, but one of the themes of the tourist tchochkes here are things emblazoned with the skull and crossed cutlasses. Thus this winsome item in the window of “Kinder Paradiese”: pegleg teddy. I went inside and checked and while the peg is genuine wood, he does have a (functional?) second eye under his patch. So life has been tough but not too gruesome.

I find him unnerving.

And all things considered, I might have done better not to go into town yesterday. The rain didn’t let up, but I thought it would, so I skipped the bus and walked the 7K back through the wet. The result of which was a miserable me, with a blister on the sole of my foot, who went through the evening rattled beyond what was reasonable. No drawing, scanning pages instead of actually reading the books in front of me, and everything felt somehow not right. While is making the trek back I was glad that I wasn’t pedaling the bike through the wet, but the whole thing makes me think I need to look into purchasing some better walking shoes. And maby some rain gear.

It’s surprising to me how wound up my emotions get when I’m traveling solo. A little hysterical. I wonder is this agitated, fearful self the one I drown out most times with a steady stream of media input?
