I work down there…

See how that black box is surrounded by plaza, a big, empty plaza? That black box is the entrance to the school where I , which is situated underneath the empty plaza. And see the white fence keeping the plaza empty? That’s because starting next week the whole plaza is going to be demolished so that it can house a restaurant and take out stand. This means that for at least six months we will be entering our offices through some dinky corridor and that our place of business will be well nigh invisible from the street.

This has also meant that the street food vendors that lined the street last week are having to push on to other locations. I feel worse for them than I do for me, since once people get habituated to finding your cart in one place, they are very unlikely to take enough time to hunt you down somewhere else.

We’re also all worried about the impact that all the demolition going on over our heads is going to have on our equipment and ability to do business. The work is scheduled to happen at night, mercifully, but we still are all on edge about it.

My popped by the office today, fresh from here hair appointment. Turns out she was sick last week, which made me distressed, since she didn’t say much about it at the time. It’s not so easy to chide one’s parents.

I came up short once again at last night, due to both having tepid cards and not playing them well. I managed to stage an incomplete comeback on the last few hands, but I knew how bad my games was. Can blame it all on my cigar? In the midst of my cleaning I’ve unearthed a lot of that I’ve had for a while and haven’t taken good care of, so they’re almost past retrieval. Rather than chucking them I’ve been smoking them as best I can which isn’t the best idea. I should just let them go.
